Why Family?

In the Beginning on Day 6 of creation, God created family. First He created man and gave him dominion over all of the Earth. God made all the animals pass before man and he named them all. There was perfect unity between God and man, yet God said, “It is not good for man to be alone,” and so He put Adam to sleep, took a rib and made woman. God brought the woman to Adam and Adam called her woman. And thus, family on Earth was created.

From the beginning of time God has family in mind. God exists forever as three persons; God the Father, God the Son, that is Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit. He lives in perfect communion and He desired humanity to have communion as well. Thus He gave us family so that we may have but a glimpse of what the God-head has in his perfect communion. What a blessing family is!

Or is supposed to be. See, right after God made this beautiful family union in Genesis 1-2, Genesis 3 happened and sin entered the world.  Now everything is affected by sin, including family and our relationships. Family is broken. We hurt one another regularly, sinning against each other to look out for number one.

Thankfully, God sent Jesus, His own Son, a perfect member of the God-head to live the perfect life, bringing restoration to family. God separated His heavenly family, sacrificing His Son, so that we could be a part of His eternal family. Not only can we be a part of God’s eternal family, we can experience family as God desires while still here on Earth. Whether your nuclear, extended, or church family. In Christ, we can have family here.

In fact, God uses family to teach us about Himself and to mold us in the image of Jesus. Isn’t that amazing! Though we deserve to be alone and suffering in our sin, God in His mercy sent His son to save us and uses us, His people, for His Kingdom by living life together.

We are so thankful to share with you how God is teaching us about being family, and what a life in the family of God is about. Psalm 127 is clear, God builds the house. God builds the family. How is God building your family today?
